How to clean out your wardrobe

Every now and then you realize that you're bored of your wardrobe or that everything got smaller, bigger, fits worse or barely fits. All of these signs means you need to clean out your wardrobe. Here there are some steps to do so! Hope you find them useful! (They helped me a lot this past weekend to clean out mine!)

It's essential to have a must-have closet but we also need to renew our pieces of art once in a while, put them in the right place to be seen or to got rid of. Once we know what we don't want in our lives anymore, we can start picturing what we do want and need. So let's start the process.

STEP 1: TAKE THE DAY OFF.

It took me the whole Sunday to do it, so I highly encourage you to take the day off or do it during the weekend.

STEP 2: GET INSPIRED

It's always good to know to picture in your mind what you want your wardrobe to become, what you want to express through your clothes. Remember everything that inspires you: your favorite blogger, some old movie... Make your own moodboard if you need help.

STEP 3: CLEAR YOUR BED AND YOUR CLOSET.

Make sure to clean your bed since it will be the base of our operations. You'll be putting piles and piles of every piece of clothing you have so we need as much space as we can have. Make sure to have a full body mirror next by so you can try on the clothes you're not sure of removing or keeping.

STEP 4: ANALYZE AND ORGANIZE YOUR CLOTHES IN PILES

This is the way we should start: t-shirts, blouses, shirts, skirts, shorts, pants, dresses, blazers, jackets, coats, bags, jewelry and, most difficult of all, shoes.

Ask your self a few questions with every piece you get out of your closet "Do I love it?" "Do I wear it?"  "Can I fix it somehow?" and most important of all "If I went shopping right now, would I buy it?" this can be the definitive question to make up your mind. Now, in every of this sub-steps, we need to pile our items following this four categories:

- What's staying: this is the group of VIPs, our favorite pieces that might be basics, or might be the diamond of our collection. What is important is that they fit us right and make us feel comfortable and confident, easy to pair and match, that might lasts through any trends and seasons.

- What can be fixed/modified: this are the items which might have gotten boring and need a DIY intervention, the ones that have a little seam break that can be fixed. They can look like new with a few cuts, stitches, and beads. Maybe turn a dress into a cute blouse or a nice skirt; a pair of jeans into a jumpsuit; you can even cut patches from clothing and sew them onto jeans or whatnot; whatever your imagination sends you to.

- To sell: I know it can be hard, but we need to let them go. Make sure they are in decent conditions for somebody else to use it now. This is the site I participate on, Chicfy, and it's been a real surprise how easy it is for other people to give the opportunity of a second chance to your garments. Might be the items that doesn't fit you anymore or those clothes that you bought without trying on and you're too late to return.

- To donate or throw away: If you're going to donate them, make sure they are under proper conditions, otherwise just throw them away. These are the clothes that are not your style anymore, or pants you're saving for when you lose weight.

STEP 5: MAKE A "NEED-HAVE LIST"

Now here comes the fun part. Make a list of what you need to have and have it in mind for your next shopping trip, and go for it!
