Many of you have commented how much you love lace after I posted about Crochet. Well, that made me realize that it's pretty difficult to see the differences between these two fabrics. So here's a post about the main differences so you can easily tell next time you'll go shopping!
It was fun to research about it too, helped me learn a lot! I hope I can learn to make some patterns of these!
Lace is an ornamental and transparent fabric of silk, made of all kinds of artistic figures. It's mostly used in lingerie, although as all of you know, it's been used in all kind of clothing lately, like dresses, tops and even pants. Very romantic and feminine!
Crochet, in the other hand is a technique of weaving with sewing thread or yarn using a short and specific needle.
There are other kinds of fabrics similar to lace, like blonda or guipure.
Blonda is very similar to lace with details that are usually use as a collar, back and cuffs. The only difference with lace is the socket for the fineness of the threads. Lace is made of silk so it looks more delicate and blonda is made of linen.
The guipure is characterized by the absence of line, working on the air like a spider web , so the provsional disappears once it's completed, the threads hold intertwined.
I'm sorry that I've been so obsessed and monotheme with this kind of fabrics, but it looked good for the season! Especially because it's been so hot and the transparence and fineness of this fabrics are great to put up with it!
